Yoga at Brentwood

Most students take part in rugby, tennis, rowing, basketball, or any of the other various sports that Brentwood offers; others do yoga. Yoga is a unique sport because it doesn’t require being more experienced or advanced than others. Whether you’re super flexible, or not at all, every level of yoga is accepted into one large group of diverse people.  Yoga is a very meditative sport in that it promotes not only physical health, but mental and spiritual health as well. During the last ten minutes of each class, Ms. Cusi talks us through a meditation session as a way to open our minds and reflect. I personally find these ten minutes very soothing as they allow us to take a break from the busyness of school and stress, and to simply participate in mindfulness.  Another unique aspect of the yoga course at Brentwood is all of the fun games we play at the beginning of class, such as Ninja and Cabbage. This is a way to let students connect to their inner child and run around freely.  Yoga is a retreat from life because it forces us to connect our bodies, minds and souls, to practice meditation, and to challenge ourselves in ways we have never done before. Whether you want to improve your splits, do a headstand, or simply be more calm, this is the perfect sport to self reflect and develop your skills. To end As yogi, LJ LV, reflects, “It’s relaxing”.  Ameera E, Allard ‘19
