West Coast Jazz Festival

A few of Brentwood’s finest music ensembles recently had the opportunity to perform in the 25th annual West Coast Jazz Festival at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo. On May 14th, Brentwood travelled to Nanaimo with their instruments in hand. It was a busy day but the results were outstanding. Both the Jazz and Beginner Rock Band received an Excellent Silver award, while the Advanced Rock Band and our “Almost Acappella” group received a Superior Gold. A few of our Grade 12s were also given the opportunity to play with the Vancouver Island Grade 12 All Star Combo. Months of preparation and behind the scene work was required from all music ensembles and individuals. All of their hard work and efforts eventually paid off and showed when they performed fastidiously, receiving valuable adjudication from several accomplished judges. The four ensembles placed so well that all of them have received an invite to Musicfest Canada, 2019 in Ottawa. The Jazz Band, Advanced Rock Band, and the String Ensemble will be spending the next few weeks preparing for Musicfest Canada, 2018 in Toronto.
