Brentwood Orientation can be a scary time for some new kids, but it’s full of new friends, new houses, and an experience unlike any other. Being nervous is natural, everyone is nervous, so the thing to remember is you’re all in the same boat, which means making new friends is easy. Go up and introduce yourself to new students, returning students, and if you’re feeling lucky, Mr. Felix, Brentwood’s version of Hogwart’s Hagrid, the friendly giant you shall soon encounter. The first week at Brentwood will present you with many new challenges: Interhouse Fun & Games (the loudest event of the year), the scavenger hunt, and yes, the swim test. My advice is to attack all of these challenges head on: if you get picked to dance at Fun & Games, dance your heart out. If you have to lead a scavenger hunt to the erg room, just follow the smell. The most important thing is to put yourself out there at every opportunity you get.  Now the most important piece of advice I can give you is to be yourself. Don’t say you can do things that you know you can’t do, don’t act a certain way to try and fit in. Just be you. As corny as it sounds, that is the way you’ll be the happiest. I’m one of the goofiest guys on campus, but hey, that’s me. You’ll make mistakes, like being too loud at prep, or missing a dinner sign in. We all do. You just need to listen and learn from the people around you, have fun, and you’ll be fine.  Welcome to Brentwood. See you in a few weeks. Luke H, Whittall ‘18
