We Came, We Paddled, We Conquered

The tide was high as the 24 members of Outdoor Pursuits brought our kayaks down to the beach. Before we left, we made sure that we had everything (including a lifejacket, Jacob MB) and then headed out towards Whiskey Point. Upon reaching the pilings, we turned north, powering our boats onward. Fighting the current and some small swells, we made our way toward our destination.  After paddling one third of the way, we paused and had a break, but most importantly, chocolates. After this quick rest, we started paddling again. Approaching our destination, we saw the van containing warm, dry clothes, and most importantly, our dinner. We landed, carried the boats up the beach and lit a fire. We got out stoves, pots, and pans to start making the four-course meal.  First course was soup, and then we had cheese fondue. After the fondue, the fire was just perfect for roasting sausages. For dessert, we roasted apples, and then rolled them in brown sugar and spices. We then loaded all of the boats and gear into the truck and were ready to head back to campus to brag about the gourmet meal we had cooked for dinner.  Congratulations to all of the new paddling recruits on their first meal with ODP! Thank you to Mr. Norman and Mrs. Olszewski for organizing this fantastic annual trip. Teagan W, Mackenzie ’15 & Joe K, Whittall ’16; Photos by Joe K, Whittall ’16
