Wave at Brentwood

6 June 2018

Vancouver Island Wave is the Island soccer club that plays in the British Columbia Soccer Premier League. This means they play Mainland club teams. The BCSPL is the highest level of youth soccer possible so when five Brentwood students and one coach currently play for VI Wave, it shows the level of quality of our soccer program. Two out of the four boys that play are juniors, one is in Grade 11, and one in Grade 12. There is also one junior girl who is part of this club. With this in mind, Brentwood soccer has a bright future.  Ben M, Juan N & Griffin FR all play together in the U18 boys while Jack NG plays for the U15 boys. Reece FR plays for the U16 girls and our Head of Soccer Wesley Barrett plays and coaches for the Men’s Division 1 team. Juan N and Jack are reigning provincial champion of the U16 and U14 boys division. While the 2018 season has not been kind to the U18 boys - the roster only includes one player of this age (the rest being U17) - their tenacity and grit has been shown through this rocky season. Battling against older boys, they have shown that they are not an easy team to beat even when the scoreboard suggests otherwise. With playoffs in the horizon, coach Blair Sturrock believes the boys can still pull this off and turn the season around. Meanwhile, the U15 boys are right in the heat of things with a chance to move up in the standings and look for the repeat. Reece and her team are also in a very good spot having won the preseason cup and the league by sweeping the competition. With a record of 10-1 in season play, the U16 girls are looking to be able bring the BC Premier Cup back to the Island.  The future of Brentwood Soccer is looking bright with this group of players still having a couple more years to go here at Brentwood and the coaching staff being more than qualified to be able to bring a provincial championship in the upcoming years, so keep your eyes out for big news and results coming to Brentwood soon. We wish the players good luck in their playoff runs this month. Juan N, Whittall ‘20
