This past weekend, half of the Junior Girls Basketball squad (we have 22 players) travelled to Nanaimo to play in the Future Mariners Tournament at VIU. There were two pools in this tournament. We played very well on Friday night and came out with a big win over Ballenas.
On Saturday, because of other commitments, we only had a team of seven players, but we managed to get our second win against Wellington. Our last game was the final for 1st and 2nd. Highlands were very good and had some very experienced players. At half time the score was knotted 18-18.
Our girls settled down and focused for the second half and pulled ahead right out of the gate. As a result, the Brentwood Junior Girls are the Champions of the VIU tournament this year. Way to go girls!
We have games against Salt Spring, Duncan Christian, Quamichan, and Shawnigan before the break.
