Volleyball Girls win Silver Medal in Vancouver
It was another successful weekend of volleyball for the senior girls as they participated in the Handsworth Invitational tournament. Many of the province’s top AAAA teams, along with our #1 provincially ranked AA Brentwood team, were included in the 16 team draw. On Friday the girls got off to a very strong start winning their pool with convincing victories over North Surrey (25-11, 25-17) , Windsor (25-19, 25-18) and Elgin Park (25-17, 25-22). The Saturday morning quarterfinal match was against a very talented team from Port Moody’s Heritage Woods. The Brentwood girls were pushed to three sets but prevailed with a 25-20, 20-25, 15-9 victory. In the semis Brentwood faced the very big and fast 3rd ranked AAAA team from Riverside. In one of the most spectacular matches of their season, the girls won in straight sets 25-23, 25-21.
In the finals, the #1 ranked AAAA team from Handsworth snatched the gold medal from our girls in a classic nail-biting match with scores of 25-23, 25-23. There were many standout moments and superlative players during the weekend, but, most importantly, it was a brilliant team effort. Next up for the girls is a showcase game vs. Dover Bay at the Woodward Sportsplex on Thursday, November 4 at 6:00 pm.
