The Brentwood Environmental Action Team (BEAT) has a busy week ahead of them. Tomorrow (October 16th) is World Food Day. With an estimated increase of 105 million hungry people in 2009, there are now 1.02 billion malnourished people in the world, meaning that almost one sixth of all humanity is suffering from hunger. (From http://www.worldfooddaycanada.com/) In support of local agriculture and to learn more about the environmental impact of food transportation, Mr Norman's Outdoor Pursuits students will be supplying carbon free apples for prep snacks. They will ride their bikes to a local farmer, pick 120 lbs of apples, and then transport the fruit back to campus in bike trailers. On October 18th there will be a waste cleanup to start off Waste Reduction Week as well as a t-shirt making session for BEAT members. (More information about Waste Reduction Week can be found here: http://www.wrwcanada.com/) October 24th is the International Day of Climate Action (http://www.350.org/). A group of students and staff will be watching the documentary film 'A Sea Change' at the University of Victoria.
