For some, when it comes time to start thinking about applying to university, it is the moment they have been preparing for years in advance; however, for most, the planning only began at the end of Grade 11 or the start of Grade 12. This time is stressful for everyone, whether you are applying to your dream school or picking a school in general. Some students have been preparing for months, if not years, in advance, counting down the days until they can submit their application or waiting for the email letting them know they have an interview for a school on the other side of the world.

In Book P’s case, he only returned to school a week late because he spent an extra week in his home country of Thailand in order to attend a highly competitive interview process for medical school. When asked about the process, he described it as “intimidating but an overall really fun experience.” It consisted of a series of mini-interviews with professors from the school as well as doctors and people in the workforce: “Each interview lasted about 8 mins.” This is Book’s third and final year at Brentwood; he has always been a hard-working student and a great friend. Best of luck to Book in his application.

In regards to a more relaxed approach to the application process, I discussed plans for the coming years with Pio L. His goal is “to attend law school and follow in my father's footsteps.” He has applied to schools all over the place that he sees fit for his goals, and says he is “waiting to see what schools I get accepted to, then narrow down my choice from there.” This sounds like a good plan and quite possibly Pio’s calling. I look forward to hearing what school he decides on. Best of luck Pio, you can count on me to keep my fingers crossed for you during this process.

This time is as stressful as you make it, so plan ahead and explore your passions. I wish everyone who is still in the middle of this process the best of luck. Remember to also slow down and enjoy our last few months in high school.
