Tuning Up For Gold

6 May 2013
Edna Widenmaier
Music education inspires and enriches and the quality of our programmes once again is confirmed with our participation in MusicFest Canada, the premiere invitation only national festival that runs from May 13-17.

MusicFest is celebrating its 41st annual festival at the University of Toronto. The “Nationals” brings together more than 10,000 of Canada’s finest young musicians in 300 ensembles to perform for national recognition.

The Brentwood College Concert Choir, under the direction of Elizabeth MacIsaac and assisted by Phil Newns, earned their invitation after receiving a Gold standing at both the Powell River Festival and West Coast Concert Choir Festival in 2012.

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Phil Newns and assisted by Elizabeth MacIsaac, also received their invitation by winning Gold in 2012 at these two festivals.

In addition to the adjudicated performances, our students will have the opportunity to watch their peers from across Canada as several stages at the university are being utilized for the performances, and take part in daily workshops and sectionals with professional musicians. In the evenings, they will be attending some fabulous concerts including performances by the world-renowned Eastman Wind Ensemble, Canada’s finest percussion ensemble Nexus, the Toronto Symphony, and the legendary Swingle Singers.

Our vocalists will have the opportunity to share their musical achievements and be evaluated in a constructive and educationally focused way. We all look forward to a challenging but enriching experience.
