Triumphant Win for our Senior Soccer Girls
Through the rain and the wind, we battled hard for victory!
Early this week, our Senior Girls Soccer team played a physical match against local rivals Francis Kelsey Secondary School.
Arriving at the pitch, we were bundled up to protect ourselves from the strong wind, but as soon as warmup was over our layers were shed as we were ready to win. Coming out strong with the wind at our backs, Nairee P, Allard '18 cut through their defense and scored the first goal. Still with a lot of time in the half, we battled hard in hopes of another goal. When the whistle was blown, indicating halftime, we were still only up 1-0 but had dominated a lot of the play.
With smart and helpful game play tips from the coaches at half time, we went back on the field pumped up and ready to finish the game with a win. Within the first five minutes of the second half, Sarah L, Mackenzie '16, with an assist from Bryn C, Mackenzie ’16, scored the second goal. Now up 2-0, we knew they would push back hard so we kept up our pressure and continued to defend our net, even through a nosebleed to Mollie G, Mackenzie ’15 (by hitting the ball with her face.) ;-)
The final score was 2-0 with Hannah W, Allard ’15, earning a shutout. Winning this game gave us the #1 ranking for our Mid-Island league, which is a nice way to enter our tournament in Campbell River.
Congratulations and good luck to our senior girls in the remainder of their season!
