Tri-Sport-Ite

In an age that has trended towards athletic specialization, students who perform at a high level in three sports are becoming increasingly rare. They are a very special subset. Here are some of them: Casper P, Whittall ‘18 was a striker on the First 11 Soccer team which went to provincials, a defensive force of nature on the Senior Boys Basketball team which won BC Gold in 2017 and 2018, and roamed the pitch for the Senior Rugby 7s squad which captured Bronze at BCs. Lindsay W, Allard‘19 was a stalwart on the First 11 Field Hockey squad, a member of the Girls Ice Hockey team and the #8 for Girls rugby. Siôn G, Ellis ‘18, our Assistant Head Prefect for Athletics, practices what he preaches. A backliner and throw-in specialist for First 11 Soccer, he is also a lightning-quick member of the First XV backline and a Silver medalist at the BC Track & Field Championships. Nick M, Privett ‘18 has the distinction of competing on Varsity teams in soccer, hockey & rugby this year. He also managed to play in all three Showcase Games this year - it’s a surprise he doesn’t have a shoe deal!  A pair of young athletes even managed to compete in four sports this year. Keaton H, Privett ‘20 & Jack NG, Ellis ‘21 were teammates in three junior boys sports this year: cross country, soccer, and basketball. Keaton also won two medals in BC Track & Field while Jack patrolled the backfield as fullback for Colts Rugby. Reece FG, Mackenzie ‘20, was a setter for Senior Volleyball, a midfielder for Senior Soccer and hurdler and long jumper in Track & Field. Other athletes who managed three sports this year include the following: Mariko L - basketball, tennis, soccer Jack R - soccer, basketball, rowing Pedro P - soccer, tennis, squash Torren K - soccer, rugby, track Callum BC - cross country, rugby, rowing Janessa P - volleyball, basketball, rugby Megan K - rowing, field hockey, soccer Keeva O - rowing, rugby, field hockey Long may the desire to pursue pleasure and excellence across a wide range of sport run on.
