Travelling Stress Free

3 November 2019

It was almost two weeks ago when I stated “It is the time of the year when we break free and go back to our nests to reset”. The two week duration between the Thanksgiving Break and our November midterm break consisted of multiple assessments, parent teacher meetings, TEDx, sports tournaments and multiple university applications for Grade 12’s. It is finally time to go back to our homes and reflect on our performance in October as we head close to the end of term 1 after November.

While most of us are happy to do this, the happiness comes with the stress of travel. The stress of productively using the break. The stress of excess baggage! The stress of forgetting something to pack or simply getting sick! Stress, stress, stress. Travelling is not only about stress; we can make this November midterm break stress free by following a simple procedure.

In the week leading up to the midterm, make sure to complete all your designated assignments and perform well on your tests to avoid fretting about them over the break. While you begin to prepare for the break, it is essential to realize that you still have a couple of days of school, and so you will likely be tested on those couple of days. Make sure you pack your bags or your suitcases two days before travel and check Myschool daily for updates on travel. Then one day before your travel, check in your seat online to confirm you have an aisle seat. Make sure to charge your devices and bring reading materials for yourself on the flight or ferry.

To establish a productive break, it is important to attain all the rest you can possibly get and designate a large portion of time to spend with your family and friends. If you didn’t follow the travel guide in the sequential steps listed above and did not finish your homework and assignments promptly, you can utilize the some time during break to complete the work and polish it for class on Thursday. Lastly, thank all the individuals that you are grateful for and make time to reflect on your start in term 1 and how you can improve to make the remainder of the term valuable and beneficial on your Brentwood journey.
