In Tennyson’s dramatic monologue “Ulysses” the titular protagonist, during an unappreciated lull in his adventures, reflects “How dull it is to pause, to make an end, / To rust unburnish'd, not to shine in use!” The Junior Boys Basketball team, forced off the court by their mid-term holiday, felt exactly the same way and, being young men of action who are “strong in will”, returned to campus two days early to prepare for an important tip off against Cowichan High on Tuesday and the Island Championships at Belmont Thursday through Saturday. Coaches Sullivan and Napier ran the lads through their paces on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning before the trip to the Cowichan gym Tuesday evening. Despite a slow start (they were down 6-15 early on) the boys persevered and earned a solid win, capturing the Mid-Island league. Ian G & Grant D, both Rogers ‘19, led the scoring with piratical precision while seven of their teammates chipped in with a basket or more.  No doubt this crew, with an eye on earning a berth at the Provincials later in the month, plan “To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield” in this weekend’s big tournament at Belmont. The boys face the the host school Thursday at 1:00.
