The girls' soccer season is finally underway, and while other sports may come and go with the changing seasons, the soccer nets, cleats, and players remain a constant fixture on the turf. As the boys hone their soccer skills in the first term and everyone refines their abilities in the second, the girls eagerly await their turn to compete in the third term.

When the entire campus was blanketed with a layer of snow, the girls’ soccer program showed their determination and grit. The players were forced to meet in the gym, where the air was hot and dense, causing some undeniable heat exhaustion. Despite the challenges, the team still trained intensely, and by their second practice, the snow had melted away, and the girls were back on the turf with their soccer balls.

The upcoming soccer season promises to be an exciting and fast-paced one, with games and tournaments scheduled almost immediately after Spring Break. Last year, the team traveled to various locations throughout the province, including Vancouver, Salt Spring Island, and Victoria. They participated in games and tournaments and experienced a fair number of victories and defeats. This year, the players are hoping for a more consistent winning streak.

“Being a brand new student this year, the players and coaches have already been so welcoming to me. I participated in a couple of Soccer Skills practices and found them amazing. I am so excited for the girls' season, I know I’ll form strong connections all throughout the team”, explained Ginger W, Allard ‘24. Katie L, Mack ‘24, echoed this by saying “The girls always have so much fun in soccer. We all get along really well, on the field and off it”.

“We are excited to get going on the season. We have a large group of over 50 players registered in term three soccer and they all come from their own background and experience within the sport. It is super exciting seeing Grade 8s to 12s come together on the field and watching them compete and push each other with a desire to get better at the beautiful game. Our season starts after Spring Break, so all of the sessions prior to are used as assessments and preparation for players”, expressed Mr Wesley Barrett, one of the coaches.

The girls are eagerly anticipating another successful season, and the student body is ready to cheer them on every step of the way.
