The Silver Star Thirteen: A Truly International Adventure.

12 February 2009
Mike Flynn
Bright blue skies and powdery white snow added up to a quintessential Canadian winter experience for thirteen lucky Brentonians this past mid-term in the annual ski trip to Vernon, B.C.  A truly international group representing Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Germany, Barbados, Mexico and the United States were treated to well-groomed slopes, challenging steep runs, a terrain park, an outdoor skating pond, snow sculptures, ice fishing, and night skiing with fireworks, to top it all off. Several skiers/boarders took advantage of the lessons that were provided, with each one improving their skill level as the days passed. Nourishment was never a concern as everyone chowed down on yummy, gastronomical fare from local restaurants, or home-cooked dishes prepared in the individual kitchenettes. It was not difficult to spot the Brentwood troops on the return flight; they were the goggle-eyed, sleepy ones, tuned in to their various music devices. New friendships were forged and wonderful memories created over the past six days. Rumour has it that plans are already in the making for next year’s trip, Winter Olympics or not!
