Arts are important to everyone, as there are many facets to the world of art, from theatre, to culinary, to visual or creative arts. Everyone loves to look at, or create amazing art. One area of art that is visually able to amaze viewers is woodworking. Woodworking is an art that focuses on making incredible creations. Brentwood’s Woodworking program is outstanding and has many skilled woodworkers involved in it.  The art is split up into two art blocks that include an advanced class and a beginner to intermediate class and we are very lucky to have such a skillful and excellent woodworker, Mr Hunwick, as our teacher. Mr Hunwick gives many tasks that challenge the ability to greatly extend our woodworking capabilities. From these challenges, our work grows. The first project he gave out was in November. He challenged us to make a child's toy to give as a present for everyone’s favourite holiday, Christmas! As soon as the class got this assignment, everyone went to work. All of the stations in our woodshop were packed. Saws were running, sanding belts were sanding, and work was being done. Mr Hunwick would sometimes stop the class and give us a small task. The first task he gave the class was to make a wood joint. This task is very helpful for everyone in the class because it helps us advance our builds.  After the Christmas holiday, we were assigned another project. Mr Hunwick said  we have to build a box, but we can make the box any kind we want. Many kids started thinking of ideas. People within the class started drawing and planning the boxed dimensions, shape and wood type. After all of the planning took place, we got to work yet again. The end results for the boxes was beautiful.  Many boxes were made of oak, and spruce with beautiful and bountiful amounts of paints on the interior and exterior. Mr Hunwick’s task at the beginning of the year, helped many students because lots of us integrated the wood joints into our own builds. “This year has been a good challenge for all of us. Many hard hours are put into many builds here at Brentwood’s Woodworking program”, Quincy E, Privett ‘20 observed. Many great projects arise from all of the hard work many of us put into the program At the end of it all, many of us are proud of our advancements in skill, and work ethic.  Christopher B, Rogers ‘20; Photo by Zach L, Ellis ‘19
