The Monday BLUES

7 October 2021

Usually, after anm active six-day week of hard work full of academic, athletic, artistic, and social challenges, we look forward to the one-day weekend where we can relax and appreciate the great times spent with our friends. Unfortunately, that glorious one-day weekend eventually comes to an end.

Ah, Mondays. The grey weather, the herd of half-asleep students dragging their bodies across campus like a zombie apocalypse, and worst of all, the harsh realization that it is only the beginning of the week. Now, one can try to look for the light at the end of the tunnel, but the sad reality is that you will only see darkness.

This is not the case in all houses. For some, when Mondays could be grim, they are a time of pure beauty, a time of celebration, and a time to rejoice. There is only one place on campus where this energy can be found on a Monday night. And that place is the house of blue, Privett House.

For some boys in Privett House, Mondays are a heavenly time, “When I dream, there are three things that always drift through my mind. Lying on a tropical white sand beach in the Bahamas, floating through the clouds on a majestic flying turtle, and Monday nights in Privett House” conjured Jacob H, Privett ‘22. For others, Mondays are a time of joyful reflection: “I hate a lot of things: people, especially children, puppies, other people’s happiness, & salt and vinegar chips. Monday nights in Privett House, however, well that’s the one time I think I feel any semblance of joy” winced Sam B, Privett ‘22.

Now, what makes Mondays so spectacular one might ask. Well, it all begins with a simple recipe. And a man with a magical touch. Everyone knows of the chocolate chip cookie. The classic. The original. The simple, yet delicious revolutionary landmark in human history.

Now take that, and combine it with the elegance and pure craftsmanship of a man determined to spread joy down the Halls of Blue. Privett is already filled with wonderful and selfless duty staff such as Mr Ganley who unite the boys as one, not just on Mondays, but every single day of the week, one warm chocolate chip cookie at a time.

Can I get a glass or milk with that?
