The Learning Centre - January 2017
“Thank you for making an amazing place for us to study and learn. The atmosphere is so much nicer.” Anonymous.
Earlier in the school year this quote was on a sticky note and placed on the Learning Centre office door. This does indeed, succinctly, sum up the exciting transition that our Learning Resource program has experienced from September 2016 to date. As part of the renovation of the Learning Commons, our Learning Centre is easily accessible in the hub of academic activity of the Ross Building. We are fortunate to enjoy a warm and inviting atmosphere with comfortable, flexible furniture that promotes both individual and collaborative work throughout the entire day and evening.
More importantly perhaps, we have welcomed Mrs. Gillian Coy, an experienced Learning Resource teacher who brings a unique and varied skill set that has allowed us to, in conjunction with Mrs. Peggy Elmes and our Residential Faculty Assistants, grow our curriculum, improve the quality of our service delivery, support more students, increase the frequency of teacher-student contact, and launch our new BCS Teacher and Student Support Model.
Through this new initiative we, as a community where diversity is celebrated, strive to meet the needs of students with exceptionalities in their classrooms by planning and working collaboratively to support our teachers in as many ways as we can. It is a win-win scenario for all our students!
