The Latest Greatest Debates over Foreign Aid

The debaters are back from their Vancouver Island Regional Tournament. The junior teams argued B.I.R.T. foreign aid perpetuates dependency while their senior counterparts wrangled over B.I.R.T. foreign aid perpetuates colonialism. Anastasia K and Robin J argued their way into an impressive second place finish overall in the junior division; they advance to the BC provincial tournament which will take place in Vancouver in mid-March. Anastasia added to her growing collection of shiny hardware with a second place medal in the individual speaker category. Yasyf M and Amanda M also finished well and are currently on the sub list for the provincials. The debate club had a great day in the face of some truly daunting competition. Nick R earned a hearty (metaphorical) thump on his brave back for leaping into the breach on Wednesday, thereby providing Danny H with a partner. With only a few days of preparation, Nick managed to fend off scores of loquacious adversaries. Stay tuned for our next update from the provincial tournament!
