The Idol Finals

It is not every day that one has the opportunity to perform in the 1,400 seat acoustically-superior Royal Theatre in Victoria. Such an experience is what memories are made of, but that is exactly what  Brentwood students Ryan Bernsten and Laura Hawkins were fortunate enough to do on Saturday night. In fact, they performed twice, once with a backing track and the second time with a seasoned professional five-piece band.  Laura won a 3rd place finish over 12 other finalists in the REMAX Victoria Idol finals, while Ryan won the hearts and minds of the near capacity crowd with his quirky but endearing stage presence.  The 1st place went to 15 year-old Greg Baan-Meiklejohn from Reynolds Secondary, while 2nd place went to Tenille Wood, a 21 year-old singer from North Saanich.  Just to get that far, however, makes everyone a winner and we extend a hearty congratulations on behalf of the school to Laura, Ryan and all the competitors for their great performances and a very exciting evening.
