The 2007-2008 edition of the Brentwood rowing programme started yesterday with three entries in the Fraser River Fours. This event, sponsored by the University of British Columbia is held over a 4.5 km course against the current on the Fraser River. The senior boys 1st four finished in second place, two seconds behind the 2007 National Under-16 silver medallists from St. George's. This was a great result for the new Brentwood crew consisting of three lightweights from last year (Colin Gilbert, Steve Schultz and Dan Brink) together with Dan Thompson and Dan Munsell from last year's senior heavyweight eight. The second four: Beth Chiasson, Fraser Crowley, Myles Dickson, Scott Whitley and Will Hindson experienced some major equipment problems at the start of the race, but managed to finish 7th out of the 9 crews competing. The senior girls crew received gold medals for winning the junior division, competing in the same flight as the novice, varsity and JV crews from UVIC and UBC. The five girls: Ginny Reynolds, Rona Mitchell, Abby Rosen, Claire Rawlinson, and Brooke Huestis enjoyed standing on the podium to receive their medals from Mike Pearce, Head Coach of the UBC Club. Though there was a lack of junior crews for the girls to race against, the Brentwood crew put on a great show.
