The Departing Bulls

After an incredibly successful year in Whittall House, we sadly had to say goodbye to our fearless leaders, the Grade 12s, who will be moving on after leaving a lasting effect on the place they called home. Each and every one of them has had a unique impact on the house and the school, and for that they should be recognized.

Interhouse Captain Noel Pettit brought his infectious laugh and positive attitude to the house every day; he was someone who would never fail to make you smile.

Assistant House Captain Feury Kelly played a crucial role this year as Big Bros organizer, ensuring that a house with 60+ boys was sufficiently fed with pizza every two weeks, along with being an important member of the leadership group in the house.

Ifeanyi Ayadiuno, Assistant House Captain and renowned athlete, brought his best every day in the classroom and on the court, becoming a crucial member of the basketball and tennis teams as well as being a star for several Whittall Interhouse teams.

Emiko Emiko, the man with two first names, made a big impact on the house despite being new in Grade 11, never failing to make the house erupt with laughter during house meetings with a quick one-liner or even just a facial expression.

Jahmaal Kennedy, described by Fabian H, Whittall ‘22 as “The calmest man in the house,” helped keep the boys steady with his stable demeanor and has been a staple of the house ever since his arrival.

Simon Greene’s questionable facial hair will only be a small part of what he will be remembered for, along with his quick-witted remarks and trademark smile.

Tega Ejumabone, the lone new student coming into Grade 12, immediately fit in with the boys in his new surroundings and played a pivotal role as a Prefect and as a member of the house.

When he wasn’t in the weight room bench pressing 225 lbs or in the gym putting up shots, Lorenzo Gracia was in the house, interacting with the boys and sharing his loveable personality.

Josh Haley’s impact will be felt through his numerous contributions to school organizations, including B-Well, grad council, and the technology council, along with his contributions to the hockey team and the musical.

Although a majority of Ryangwon Kim’s time was spent in his room studying (or sleeping) his influence was felt throughout the house due to his kind, quiet leadership and friendly demeanor.

Ethan Humpphries took on the brave job of organizing house jobs, meaning he was often faced with the wrath of an unhappy Grade 8s who had been assigned to clean the kitchen for the week. Throughout the year, he handled this challenge with grace and composure, a commendable achievement.

Olin Dahlstrom towered over his housemates, but has been described by Davis P, Whittall ‘22 as a “gentle giant,” who, as B-Well rep for the house, was always willing to help with any issues the boys were dealing with and loved to share his personality.

From the pitch to the classroom, Josh Lavigne put his all into everything he did at Brentwood, and has left a remarkable impact over his 5 years at the school.

Dale Foerster, another Lifer, will leave behind a legacy of chess victories and hockey triumphs along with being an important member of the leadership team in the house.

Tony Eelse, a jack of all trades on the track and on the field, brought quiet leadership to the house for his five years at the school.

House captain Tareq Alansari will be remembered equally for his muscles and his brain, but even more importantly, he will be remembered for his kind and steady leadership of the house through one of the most unpredictable years in its history.

This has been a year unlike any other, a year that the Grade 12s had to be leaders when they had little to no preparation due to COVID. Despite the challenges faced throughout, the Whittall 12s banded together and formed a phenomenal leadership team. I, as a Grade 11, am so thankful for the example that they have set and we will be sure to carry on their legacy for years to come.
