The Children's Christmas Party

Each year students on the SAC put on a Christmas party for the staff’s children. Over the years it has been a fulfilling way to give back to the staff who give us so much, as well as giving us students an excuse to act like kids for an afternoon. Over the years we have had magicians, cookie decorating, and Santa visits for the kids, all of which were great successes.  This year, we decided to do something new. We figured that even though we may be high school students, more concerned with new fashion trends than Santa, we still have the underlying tendencies that draw us towards those ‘childish’, yet brilliant Christmas festivities. So, the SAC turned the event from a children’s Christmas party, to a school wide holiday extravaganza, much to the student’s amusement.  Of course, we honoured the initial intention of the event, having the day start with the children’s event. In a place like Brentwood where all the staff look out for us like parents, it is exciting for us students to be the ones to help out once in a while. After the amazing success of the Fall Fun Fair, we decided to bring back the big inflatables. Letting the younger kids get a chance to use them first, before the students then came in.  The new Foote Centre was transformed into an indoor holiday oasis. After having a chance to play on the inflatables, we had to call upon our dormant design skills, and our innate engineering talents, for the gingerbread house contest. The true values of the holiday season are community and joy, and nothing calls that out better than a group of people acting like children together.  On behalf of the student body, I would like to extend a massive thank you to all the staff and students who worked so tirelessly to make this event such an amazing success.  Amelia H, Allard ‘20
