In January of 2016, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations came into action as a call to “end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.” The aim of the UN is to have all 17 SD goals met by 2030. These goals have been taken on by the Brentwood’s Environmental Action Team (The BEAT). BEAT Captain Rebecca S, Allard ’18 and staff sponsor Ms Richardson have made it the goal of the BEAT to aid the UN in completing these tasks, planning events that pertain to each individual goal. Examples include Turn Down the Heat Sweater Day, which directly relates to goal #13, Climate Action, as well as Goal #7, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Waste Reduction Week, which pertain to Goals #11 and #12, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Responsible Consumption and Production respectively. Upcoming BEAT events in October include the BEAT Waste Monitoring on October 17, and the BEAT Old Growth Koksilah Forest Hike on October 22. The BEAT will also be holding events such as cleanups and bottle drives as a way to get the Brentwood community involved. Students who wish to become a part of the BEAT community can attend the monthly meetings in Crooks Hall during Cookie Break, with the next meeting being held on Monday, October 16, and as always, the BEAT encourages all to keep sorting their waste and reducing their impact.  Glory C, Mackenzie ‘18
