Thanksgiving is Just Around the Corner…..

4 October 2013
Marius Felix
When the school opened on September 3rd, I mentioned to our students how quickly the school year would unfold. You have probably heard from your sons and daughters how incredibly busy life at Brentwood is and there is little doubt the last four weeks have evaporated quickly! The work that has been done, however, by the students, teachers and staff has been remarkable and inspiring. New students are making the adjustment to Brentwood, not an easy task given the realities of house duties, living with 50 “brothers or sisters”, mandatory arts and sports and, of course, meeting the challenges of the academic programs. We have seen many our Grade 9 boys surprise themselves on the rugby field, seen our girls experience successes on the volleyball courts and in field hockey, hear of neophyte potters throw their first successful bowl after many failures: the list goes on and on. Thanksgiving, in the global sense, allows all of us to take a moment, and reflect on our good fortune while carefully reflecting on those around the world in far less favorable circumstances. We are immensely grateful that your children share our school with us, while also being mindful of those less fortunate. I send Happy Thanksgiving wishes to all of you and I extend particular thanks to those families who will host some of our boarding students over the upcoming holiday weekend.
