Tennis Tradition Continues

9 June 2012

Beginning three weeks ago, all male and female, senior and junior, tennis players began play in the Angus/Porter Cup tennis tournament to determine Brentwood tennis supremacy. This is an annual contest which has been held for many years on the Brentwood courts.
The players battled through threatening rain clouds, gusting winds, and blazing hot sun in their quest to be the last man or woman standing. Many great rallies, amazing efforts, and epic shots were seen throughout this year’s tournament. In the end, the last men/women playing were Conrad A and Nat T in the Senior Boys’ final, Andjela S and Georgia C in the Senior Girls’ final, Nick M and Shawn H in the Junior Boys’ final, and Leah A and Hilary J in the Junior Girls’ final.
The finals were played under sunny skies, but very windy conditions, on the lower courts. The players were forced to not only battle their nerves and the wind, but also the smell of barbecued burgers wafting from directly behind the courts as the rest of their tennis compatriots feasted on burgers, hotdogs, and a smorgasborg of other delicious foods.
When the last ball was struck, the champions of the tennis courts for 2012 were Conrad A, Andjela S, Nick M, and Leah A. Congratulations to all the tennis players – it was a fantastic season.
