On May 23rd the Brentwood competitive golf team set forth to participate in the AA Islands Tournament. Eight teams played at Arbutus Ridge over two days. We were looking to gain promotion to provincials by coming either first or second in the tournament. We sent out five golfers from Grades 9-12 looking for a chance for victory. On the first day Golf Captain Alex C, Ellis ‘19 and the team put forth a very successful showing. We were only 12 strokes behind leaders SMUS and 14 strokes ahead of third place SLS; the team was on a high. Narrow fairways, dogleg right holes and sloping greens did nothing to faze Brentwood’s team as they carded a 4 round score of 317. On the final day of the tournament an excited BCS team arrived at the Ridge ready to tackle the next 18 holes and earn a trip to provincials. Eagerness and nerves were present in the team, especially on the first tee box. Despite some strong individual rounds from Brentwood players, a resurgent SLS team played out of their cotton socks on their home course, taking second place and leaving us six strokes behind. It was a tough day to grasp for the young golfers but Alex, Jamie T, Ellis ‘20, Sonny A, Whittall ‘20, Lucas K, Whittall ‘22 and Gavyn K, Privett ‘22 kept their heads held high and embraced the experience and the strong performance.  Although it appeared that our competitive golf season was over, we learned about an opportunity to apply for a wildcard entry to provincials on the strength of our performance at Islands. The following day, news spread that we had been chosen as the only wildcard entry into provincials based of having shot the lowest qualifying score by a team applying for a wildcard. In the end, all the hard work and effort paid off for the team.  Some notable individual performances from Islands were Gavyn who shot the 2nd lowest overall individual score (146) and Lucas who shot the 6th lowest overall individual score (156). The team will be heading up to Pheasant Glen Golf Resort in Qualicum to participate in the AA golf provincials from June 2-5. Alex C, Ellis ‘19
