Super Sports Weekend

24 May 2015
Brentwood Athletics, junior and senior, boys and girls, has just completed a terrific weekend of competition. Leading the way were the members of the Girls Rugby team which captured Gold at the BC Provincial Championships in Vancouver on Saturday afternoon. After dispatching Shawnigan 33-10 in the semifinal, the girls defeated perennial powerhouse Abbotsford 27-10 to capture their second BC Championship (they won the 7s earlier in the month, also over Abbotsford). The Senior Boys, not to be outdone, opened their BC Championship Tournament with a hard-fought 26-19 victory over D.W. Poppy on Gillespie Field. It was an exciting, back-and-forth contest which displayed admirable skill, fortitude, and sportsmanship by both sides. In junior action the Junior Boys Rugby team captured a bronze medal in the Island Championship on Friday by defeating Claremont in the season finale. On the court, the Junior Tennis teams also picked up hardware at the BCs. The Junior Boys won Silver and the Girls, bronze. Still to come in the next fortnight for the avid Brentwood sports fan are the final three round of the Senior Boys Rugby, the Senior Tennis Provincials, and the National Rowing Championships, the CSSRAs, in St. Catharines in early June.
