Last weekend the Senior A Volleyball team got back from Thanksgiving Break and were ready to go in the 9th Annual Brentwood Classic Tournament. Playing our first game against a very strong team from Lambrick Park, the girls battled hard with intensity and fire. With the first two sets being split, the third match ended with the loss for our Brentwood girls, but it was a great learning opportunity and filled us with fire for the remaining five games of the tournament. Playing well and as a unit, the girl’s next game against Duncan Christian was a triumph. Fueled by the support of the home crowd, the final game of the night commenced. Facing a resilient team from Ballenas, the girls played at a new level of volleyball. This involved moving as a whole: every point was a team effort ending with the entire team’s success. With two wins and one loss, the girls headed back to their houses in order to get some much needed sleep before the playoffs on Saturday. Going up against the provincially ranked St. Thomas Aquinas from North Vancouver, we, along with the coaches, really wanted a win. Working hard and pursuing every ball, we reached our goal and left the game with a win and a #10 ranking in BC!  This gave us more energy and exhilarated our passion in order to win the semi-finals and get to the final match. Beating Belmont made this ambition a reality and in the last game of the tournament the girls played for first place for the first time this season.  The girls were not able to beat the strong team from Ballenas again, but we did capture second place and stood with pride at our accomplishment. Along with the overall success of the weekend, with incredible plays Allie W, Hope ’16, Lauren H, Allard ‘15 & Lauren Y, Mack ‘16 earned themselves grit points and Taylor C, Alex ‘17 was the top server for the team.  The 9th annual Brentwood Classic Tournament was an accomplishment and set us up well for the ISA’s this weekend, hosted again at home! So come out and support if you can, starting Friday afternoon and running through to Saturday afternoon in the Woodward Sportsplex.
