Though not in their competitive season, the cross country team has had many eager runners venture to two races in Victoria this spring.

The first race was the Times Colonist 10K. Mr Skardal and Hamish G ventured down to Victoria early on Sunday, April 24th for this race. Hamish had an impressive time of 42:41, beating Mr Skardal by exactly one minute. Also notable was Mr Smith’s 10-year-old daughter, Phoebe, who completed the race.

The second race took place in May. Brentwood sent Mrs Warner - in addition to three teams - to run 10k in the Oak Bay Half Marathon Relay. Mrs Warner met her goal for the race and all three relay teams finished in the top 10.

The staff team, “Sistahs with Blistahs”, which included Mrs Reynolds, Ms Murtland, Mrs Amiel and Mrs Sullivan, finished 9th. The Brentwood A Team, of Kara, Eden, Kieran, and Zane, were 6th. The Brentwood 1 Team, which included Evan, Ko, Hamish, and Mr Skardal, earned 1st, beating the second place team by nine minutes. On the results website, there is an ability to virtually “high five” teams. Brentwood 1 racked up over 310,000 of these high fives, which I am told can be attributed to some very supportive Rogers Grade 9s - possibly involving some click farming.

A big thank you to Mr Skardal and Mrs Reynolds for facilitating these early mornings, speed training, and constant support at the events and cross country every day. And a final congratulations to all the runners!
