Spring Term Sport 2019

6 April 2019

Spring Break gave notice that Spring term sport was about to begin but while most students were off on holidays, some were still competing or training during this time. The Senior Boys Basketball team finished up their season with a trip to Langley and the BC Boys 2A Provincial Championship. Their youth and inexperience showed at this high level tournament and while the boys competed hard, wins were not easy to come by and they finished with a 1-3 record. It was, however, a great experience for the boys and a year filled with remarkable accomplishments including a playoff run that saw them capture gold at the Mid-island, South-island and Island championship. Also over Spring Break 30 rowers traveled to Los Angeles, California to participate in our bi-annual California training camp. This year they finished off the camp at the Empire Sprints competing against crews from Washington, California, Nevada, Arizona, and Maryland. All the Brentwood athletes competed in three events and had a wonderful time together in the sunshine.   Now that we are back in school, the Brentwood fields, courts and waterfront are flooded with a full array of sports action. Our golf (co-ed), tennis (boys and girls), rugby (boys and girls) and our girls soccer teams are all gearing up for their competitive seasons. Looking ahead, the main event for the School in April will be the 49th annual Brentwood Regatta running April 26-28. While this regatta is one of the largest and most highly regarded high-school regattas in North America, it has become much more than just a series of rowing races. With almost 4,000 visitors to Brentwood’s campus, the entire school will work all weekend long to ensure these visitors have a first class experience. Entrepreneurship classes will be running their ventures, our musicians will be displaying their talent on stage, many of our buildings will be converted to dormitories and our fields turned into parking lots. The dining hall and facilities staff will be working overtime and each and every student and teacher will have a set of tasks to complete. The end result is always well worth the work and the festival atmosphere of Regatta is one that all will certainly enjoy.  Amidst all of the hustle and bustle will be some 1,700 rowers competing on the water. With the sun shining and so much action to be taken in outdoors, the spring term is always an exciting one for Brentwood athletics and we look forward to what lies ahead.
