Spring? Sports

27 February 2019

Today, despite the fact that the mercury hovered around freezing, was the first day of spring term sports. Only Senior Boys Basketball and and Grade 9 Boys Basketball, both bound for the provincials in the next week, continued their second term athletics. As the photo above suggests, our campus fields are still covered by a foot of snow. Pledging themselves to H.G Well’s axiom “Adapt or perish, now as ever, is nature's inexorable imperative”, our sports teams found ways to begin their training. Rowers headed for the ergs and running in the sunshine, girls’ soccer moved into the warmth of the Foote Centre, girls rugby headed to UVic’s cleared fields, and our rugby boys, exemplifying grit and joy, grabbed shovels and cleared the new artificial turf. Then, the real work began. We’ve all got our fingers crossed for some warmer weather in the coming days, but until then, we’ll adapt. Jim Ganley, Privett '34
