From March 12th until March 30th, the lively and chaotic schedule of Brentwood College School is put on hold for Spring Break. These two and a half weeks away from campus look very different for all the members of Brentwood, but, for the most part, the students are happy for some downtime at home, and are excited for the springtime on campus still to come.

Harrison B, Rogers ‘22 talks about his experiences with being away from home for so long at a time: “I’m pretty used to being at Brentwood now but the school year can be really busy in Grade 12. Just being away from home can be kind of draining; I am more than ready for this break.”

Head Prefect Jacob H, Privett ‘22 had some thoughts to share about his busyness this last month as well: “The musical, Chicago, was a huge time commitment in February. Don’t get me wrong, I love it and it was super worth it in the end, but I’ll be happy to have a bit more leisure time this break. After break I’ll still have all my Senior Play rehearsals but, hopefully, the last bit of the year will be a bit more relaxing.”

As the weather gets better and the school year’s finish line comes into sight, the much anticipated third term will be in full swing after returning from Spring Break. It is surely the students’ favourite time of the school year – with evenings spent playing games on the field and afternoons lying by the waterfront. However, it is a bittersweet feeling for the students graduating this June - like approaching the final season of your favourite show.

Alexandra H, Hope ‘22 comments, “It’s kinda scary to think about. A lot of us are getting our university responses this break and the end of the year is coming really fast. Spring Break, for me, means that the best part of the year is coming, but also that there isn’t really much time left.”

As per the break itself, Brentwood’s international community spreads out all over the globe during these weeks. Some students are able to journey back home to their families, and for others, their families are coming to spend the break around here. For example, Nathan O, Privett ‘22 is heading home to his family in Saudi Arabia, and Finn S, Whittall ‘23 is exploring some of British Columbia with his family from Germany.

Before long, break will be over and the school year will once again be in full swing as we shoot towards the end of the year. I think it is safe to say that everyone is happy for the break and eager for the third term, but also a bit sad for the school year approaching an end.
