Soccer Saturday Provincial Championships

24 June 2022
Brentwood is an international School. Soccer is an international game. So it should come as no surprise that we feature a robust soccer program that runs three terms a year on lush grass fields and the artificial turf beside the Foote Center. All of this is watched over by wise Wes Barrett and his team of coaches.

And we have considerable success. This year the Senior Boys captured the Provincial AA Coastal Championship and Senior Girls qualified for Islands.

Brentwood’s most enthusiastic footballers can also make the 35-minute commute over the Malahat three times a week to train and play for the Vancouver Island Wave in the British Columbia Soccer Premier League.

Alumni such as Ben MacDonald, Griffin Fougner Rukus (playing for UVic), Reese Fougner Rukus (playing at Western), and Jack Napier-Ganley (playing for UBC and the Victoria Highlanders) have all competed skillfully and enthusiastically for both the school and their Island teams.

Three current Brentwood students will be playing in this weekend's BC Premier Cup Championship at Richmond’s Minoru Park. Jai S, Rogers ‘23 will play Saturday at 3:00 against Surrey United and Sebastian Magana, Privett ‘22 - who was also the school's top Grade 12, The Dux, at 98% - will play Coquitlam at 3:00.

Jensa NG, Mackenzie ‘23, a ‘lifer’ for her Wave team, will lead her ‘05 teammates against regular season champions Surrey United on Sunday at 12:30. Both Jai and Jensa are playing for a berth at the Canada Soccer Youth National Championships in October.

All the best to these three in the weekend’s competition.
