Ski Season Has Arrived

28 January 2020

With the first snow of 2020 having fallen last week, the students are looking forward to getting on the slopes. We eager students who want to go skiing or snowboarding get up early on Sundays and take a bus ride to Mt. Washington. This is a regular event that Brentwood organizes together with Shawnigan Lake School.

After a bus ride of just under 2.5 hours - when many get their pre-ski nap - it is definitely worth it when you finally arrive. After all the precipitation Vancouver Island has had over the last two weeks, the mountain is a winter wonderland. The snow at the mountain is, of course, even better than in Mill Bay - the 30cm that fell on campus has already disappeared.

The students love to go up together to ski. It is also a great opportunity for us to meet new people from both schools. Some people from other parts of the world, like Europeans, also have a lot of skiing options in their home countries, so they can already ski really well. Students from other parts of the world, who cannot bring their own equipment, can easily rent at the mountain.

There are also opportunities for new skiers to learn how to ski or to improve their skills on the skis or snowboard as lessons are also offered and can be chosen by the students.

I am an international student from Germany and I really look forward to having the opportunity to go skiing in Canada. We also have to express a big thank you to Mr. Lee for organizing these skiing trips, and to the staff members who accompany the students to the mountain.
