Last weekend, Volleyball AA Islands were held at Brentwood. After a hard five-set battle against Barsby at North Islands the weekend before, the Senior A Volleyball team had not only qualified for Islands but won North Islands!

The first day was a round-robin and the team knew they had to perform really well in order to get first in their pool and allow them to go straight to semi-finals the next day. The team finished that first day winning all their games putting them in the semi-finals against Barsby. Captain Lexus BJ made some perfect sets allowing the hitters to have some killer swings. Abby S and Sydney M played outstanding defence keeping the team excited for playoffs the following day.

Day two of Islands was scary for the girls because for the grade 12s it was their last home game as well as the qualifying game for provincials. Going into the first set against Barsby (again) the team was confident which allowed them to play spectacularly, resulting in a win. The second set was more challenging because Barsby fought harder in order to go into a third set. Jocelyn L ended the well-earned win with a jaw-dropping stuff block qualifying the team for provincials and Island finals.

Although the girls didn’t have the results they hoped for at the end of the final game against PCS, they did earn Silver medals at Islands and they continue to work hard during practise in order to be the best they can for the upcoming provincials in Vernon this coming week.
