Seven vs SLS

20 January 2018

On Tuesday night the Senior Girls Basketball team ventured into the territory of black and gold. With a short lineup due to injury and sickness, we walked into the gym with six players. The first quarter was swayed in the direction of Shawnigan. They were pushing the ball up the floor, and with their strong ball handlers and aggressive post players we were down after the first 10 minutes. As Coach Doman reminded us that we needed to be ‘the hardest working team’ we started the second quarter with a new-found attitude and drive.  Tochukwu A, Natalie B, and Glory C all worked hard to grab rebounds both offensively and defensively to narrow the gap and find some fast break opportunities. As Shawnigan’s main ball handler got into foul trouble, we put pressure on the ball and created more chances for ourselves. Both Megan A and Leila M were working hard defensively, making sure they left their all on the court.  After halftime, we continued to pressure the ball, but with strong post work from SLS we could not close the gap. A fire was ignited in all of us by Zjaya D as she was hot from beyond the 3-point line and ended the game with 27 points. 21 of those points from the 7 treys she scored.  With a final score of 58-51 for SLS we look forward to our Showcase rematch on January 30th in the Woodward Sportsplex. With tip-off at 7:30 make sure to come down to the gym and support your Senior Girls Basketball team in their only home game this season. Megan A, Alex ‘18
