Senior Tennis is Serving It Right

13 August 2018
Many of the Senior Tennis players started training for the third term season at the indoor courts during the second term. They put in many training hours in the bubble while the rain pounded outside. When it was time to move outdoors, the training was increased with players coming on their free arts blocks as well to hone their skills. The players were also able to get some quality training time and match play with alumni Nick McLean and Chris Chan.  The team played league games against Shawnigan and St. Michaels, showing good improvement with every match, as partners became more familiar with each other. At the Independent Schools Association tournament in Vancouver, the boys and girls teams both placed 3rd. This was a good result for the team with a large number of competitors from both the Island and the Lower Mainland participating. Throughout the year, the team has hosted two major tournaments, the Fall Classic and the Spring Invitational, with teams coming from the Island and Vancouver to compete. These tournaments have been excellent practice and training for the doubles teams as players learn to work together. Another highlight of the tournaments is always the barbeque which prepares burgers - and assorted variations of grilled cheese sandwiches - for players and fans alike.  At the end of May, the team played its best tennis of the year at the Vancouver Island Tournament, securing a berth to the 2018 High School Provincial Tournament held in Vancouver on May 24-26.
