Senior Soccer Stops Stags

26 September 2013
Gord Horth and John Garvey
The Senior Boys Soccer team travelled to Shawnigan Lake School for our league opener and came home with a well-deserved 3-1 win.  A complete team effort saw few chances provided to the opposition with the conceded goal coming from a speculative long range effort. Our defense was very stingy and the midfield dictated the play giving rise to a number of scoring chances. Tom S started with a fine strike that deflected into the goal. Then Josh S cooly slotted the ball into the net for the second goal after Philip M had blocked a goalie clearance. Toby CH played a smart one-two pass sequence with Josh S and then finished the third tally with aplomb. The squad also traveled to Vancouver for the annual ISA Tournament last weekend. Playing five games in two days required a large squad of 20 players and gave the coaches an opportunity to tinker with lineups and player placement. Losing three games and winning two, we were pleased with the progress over the five games which was evident in a close 1-0 win over SLS in the 4th match. A number of players were able to open their scoring accounts with Toby CH notching four goals (including a natural hat trick), Philip M contributing two, and singles coming from Keaton S, & Ibrahim S. Perhaps not surprisingly, Toby CH received the MVP trophy for the BCS squad. The squad hosts GISS for the second league match Oct 1 with a 3:45 kick off. Gord & Garv, Coaches
