Senior Soccer Stings Scorpions

21 April 2019
As the rains began to fall last Thursday afternoon, the Senior Girls Soccer team managed to keep their soccer cleats on long enough - before racing off to catch planes, trains, busses, and automobiles to begin their four day Easter Break - to edge the Gulf Islands SS Scorpions 2-1 in league action. After conceding a goal in the opening minutes, the girls battled hard to play a possession game and were rewarded late in the first half with a 20 yard, in-off-the-post strike from rookie Danielle G which evened the score. Holding everything together were veterans Ashley D & Willemijn P, our Powell River twin towers, skillfully patrolling the backline and repelling the advances of several very talented opponents while Jocelyn L deftly directed the midfield on both defence and offense. Late in the game, Jensa NG managed to evade her check and run onto a beautifully placed through ball from Jocelyn to slot through our second goal of the game. The Senior and Junior Girls are in action this weekend, April 26 & 27, at the ISA Championships in Victoria. The Juniors open on Friday at GNS while the Seniors are at SMUS.
