Senior Soccer Scores Island Berth
The North Island Senior Soccer playoffs saw the team play some of their best football of the season.
The first game saw BCS coming out firing & winning 4-0 against Highlands with Toby CH notching a hat trick (his 3rd of the season) & Josh S also finding the back of the net. Our second game was against top seeded Gulf Islands and although the boys had chances, it was the Islanders taking it 2-0. The next day found the boys in an upbeat mood and they overwhelmed the Ballenas opposition 5-0, with braces from both Tom S & Keaton S, and the single from Martin K.
Perhaps one of the grittiest performances of recent times was in the bronze medal game against a very talented Kwalicum side. With the game scoreless at half time, BCS went down a man after having a player sent off. Undaunted, the team found a second gear and took the game to Kwalicum with a opening goal taken through the tremendous pace of Phil M racing through their defense and drilling the ball home. The insurance goal came next off a tricky play worthy of the Premier League when Martin K back heeled the ball to an open Brendon K who, not to be outdone, back heeled the ball into goal.
Scoring 11 goals and only conceding 2 was testimony to the team’s success at the tournament. A very stingy defense, coupled with a creative midfield, allowed numerous chances for the forwards who were in fine form.
The team moves to the Island Playoffs Nov 5 & 6th at the University of Victoria.
