The Senior Girls Soccer team travelled to neighbouring SLS for the North Island Playoffs this week and came away with four wins, the tournament title, and the top seed going to the Island playoffs May 14/15th at SMUS.

The first game against Gulf Islands was a see-saw battle with BCS taking the lead on an Eryn W cross from the left met smartly by Karly D. Salt Spring clawed their way back in from a corner kick that eventually found the back of the BCS net to even the score. Mairi H gave us back the lead, and although Gulf Islands never stopped competing, it was Brentwood that finished on the better side of a 2-1 game.

The second game against Mark Isfeld from the Comox Valley saw BCS with most of the play, but an in-form Isfeld keeper kept a clean sheet until midway through the second half when Mairi H put one away. Soon after that Mairi
slipped a ball through to Tessa M to run onto, and although the keeper made the initial stop, Tessa was able to head in the resulting deflection. BCS 2, MI 0.

Finishing at the top of our pool, BCS took on SLS in the semi-final and a close match saw goals for BCS, the first from Karly D, the second by Mairi H, before SLS got a goal back to put the game back onto a boil. BCS 2 SLS 1.

The gold medal game featured a rematch against the Gulf Islands and although BCS had the bulk of the play the GI keeper made some outstanding saves to keep it notched at zeros before two late (and deserved) goals, coming first from Meaghan B who coolly took it around the keeper on a breakaway, followed by a superb long range strike by Karlein L. BCS 2, GI 0.

Carrying a deep bench of fifteen senior players and three juniors (Karly D, Karlein L, & Kelsey H), we were able to keep good momentum during four games over two days. The backline was very solid allowing the midfield to flow forward and to link up well with our forwards. Although we struggled at times to find the net, the buildup was excellent and we expect more goals will come in future games. Mairead M was exceptional in her corner kick delivery, as well as playing a sublime sweeper role.
