In the first leg of the famed Barswood Cup (Brentwood Senior Boys 2nd XI vs. John Barsby Boy s 1st XI), a total of 16 goals were scored. With the spoils shared – it was an 8-8 final score – Brentwood Second XI travelled to Nanaimo for the 2nd leg. On a wonderfully sunny fall afternoon, it was, again, a clean and attractive soccer game. Once again, the goals came quickly and often. It may sound as if the goalkeepers at both ends spent their time picking balls out of the net, but both did a great job, and kept many fine shots from finding the net. In the end, Barsby won 5-3. The aggregate score for the two legs was 13–11 in favour of our opponents! They win the elusive, fabled trophy (it has never been seen.) Brentwood scorers were Robbie S, Shawn H, & Woody L. Last week the First XI started celebrating Thanksgiving a little early as they travelled to Cowichan for their last league match and came away with their second decisive win of the week.
A quick start ultimately sealed the win by the end of the first half. As usual, it was a team contribution that supplied a stingy defence, coupled with a dominant midfield providing the forwards with ample chances. For the second time this season Toby C notched a hat trick. Not to be outdone, both Keaton S & Philip M potted a brace apiece, with Martin K rifling a lovely cross for Harrison B to head home to round things out. The final score was 8-1 for Brentwood.
With only one league loss this season, the boys will come in as a highly seeded placement for playoffs later in the month. Mr. John Garvey & Mr. Gord Horth, Coaches
