Senior Soccer Finishes Season Strongly

8 November 2010
The Senior Boys soccer team traveled to Salt Spring Island for the North Island playoffs and took on some of the best Vancouver Island teams. A narrow 1-0 loss in the first game to Shawnigan was followed by another loss to Highlands, which put the team in a must-win situation against tournament hosts Salt Spring the following day.

Although the Brentwood boys started strongly, Salt Spring quickly gained a 2-0 lead capitalizing on a few chances. Undeterred, the boys got a foothold into the game when Cam V delivered a probing ball into the box for Simon F to rifle home with a quick left-footed strike. Salt Spring responded with a decent strike to widen the gap again. The team could have felt it wasn't their day but instead the squad raised their game and Yannick H drove hard to the net and only a foul in the penalty area stopped him. Raffy G stepped up and took the responsibility to tuck away the ensuing penalty kick to get the team to within one. Sensing the opportunity to seize the game, it wasn't long until Gavin S crossed the ball for Yannick H to tie things up.

At 3-3 apiece after regular time the tie breaker through penalty shots was needed. The team showed great poise in winning the penalty shootout 3-2.
The squad played with great heart and supported one another when they were winning or losing, which is a testament to the character of the team.
