Senior Soccer 4th at ISAs

29 September 2012
The Senior Boys’ Soccer squad took to SLS in ISA play Sept 21 and started the tournament against a strong St. Georges side. Although St. Georges took the lead twice, BCS worked hard to counter each goal with ones of
our own. Rene B notched his first from the penalty spot & then converted one from a corner. Jordan C had a stellar game between the pipes: BCS 2, St. Georges 2.

The tournament format required a penalty shootout should a tie breaker be needed for playoff placement. Putting Tom Shaw in goal, four BCS players (Rene B, Philip M, Tom S, & Aidan C) converted from the spot to beat St. Georges 4-2 in the shootout.

The second game against ISA newcomers, Stratford, was a little one-sided with BCS needing at least 5 goals to place first in our pool. The team responded by notching 8 (Rene B 2, Philip M 1, Tom Shaw 2, Jason T 1, Aidan C 1, Woody L 1) with Marius S recording the shutout.

Placing first in pool play took the team directly into the semi-finals Saturday morning. Playing SLS in the semis, the game was fairly balanced with SLS holding a 2-1 lead with ten minutes to go. Needing a win to advance, Brentwood committed more players forward and it ultimately cost us, as we conceded 2 late goals to lose 4-1. Jason T had scored a fine goal to level us 1-1 midway through the 1st half.

The last game (and fourth in 2 days) had us playing Southridge. Although Brentwood played with a lot of heart, Southridge was the better team on the day and took the match 3-0.

The coaches were pleased with the 4th place finish at the ISA's and the total team effort over the tournament that allowed many players to get involved in valuable competitive soccer prior to the league starting September 25th away at Salt Spring.
Mr. Gord Horth, Coach
