Senior Hockey Defeats Cowichan Secondary: Development Trumps SLS

20 December 2011

Last Tuesday afternoon marked the drop of the puck for the Brentwood Hockey programme. The senior team, led by goal scorers Cristian J with a hat trick and Avery S with 2, played a very fast paced game against a very skilled team from Cowichan Secondary and came out on the winning side of the equation with a narrow 5-4 win.

These talented goal scorers, centered by Joey R, spent most of their time in the opposition end and produced many scoring opportunities.  The victory would not have been possible without a very strong game in net by Connor M.

With limited practice time this early in the season, the coaches could not have been more pleased with the effort and willingness to dig deep against a very good Cowichan team.

In the second game of the double header, the BCS development team also played its first game against the Shawnigan Lake Development team and, with some hard work and reasonably good team play, came out on the winning side of a 4-0 score. The scorers were Aston G (2) and Mack S (2).

The development team is made up of players from grades 9 through 12 and with a wide range of playing experience. It marked the first game of hockey ever for Damian M (grade 9) and Warren C (grade 12). Damian makes his home in Nigeria and Warren is a resident of Hong Kong. Both have made amazing progress with limited time on the ice this early in the season. The goaltending shutout was shared by Logan B and Matt C.

Friday afternoon brought the Senior team up against Shawnigan. With goals by Robert L, Cristian J (2) and Avery S (shorthanded) we won 4-1. It was a very faced paced and physical game and one that, early on, could have gone either way. Of note were the three girls who played and contributed well: congratulations to Lexy K, Mack S, and Samantha D.

Mr. Mike Flynn, Head Coach
