The Senior Girls Basketball team finished off their season this past weekend at the Island Championships. The team qualified for this tournament at the South Islands and knew that they would be facing some tough competition from both the North and South Island.

Our first game was against the top-ranked team in the North, Wellington. Although the girls played their best against this tough squad, we unfortunately suffered a loss to this team who will now represent the Island at the provincial championships.

Game #2 was against Kwalikum and the score went back and forth all game. Although the girls were down by two points with less than 30 seconds to go, they battled back and gained possession off of a jump ball that went in Brentwood’s favour with 5 seconds left. The team passed the ball in and with no time left on the clock Ailish T sunk a three-pointer to win the game by one point (56-55)! Top scorers of the game were Ailish (19) and Madlen A (13).

The win meant that the team lived to see one more day and faced Woodlands in a must-win game. The girls gave their best effort all game and closed a 17 point gap in the 4th quarter to 6, but unfortunately could not make the complete comeback and lost 64-58. Top scorers of the game were Madlen A (29 points) and Ailish T (10 points).

The team finished 5th on the Island and should be proud of their season. Special thanks to Juniors Carolyn B, Jessica L and Tajzha D, and also to Kendra S for playing with the Senior team in their last two tournaments. The coaches congratulate all players on a terrific season and would like to thank our Captains, and only graduating players, Madlen A and Emily H for their leadership this season. Well done girls!
