On the weekend of March 15th/16th, the Mill Bay Shock U18 girls volleyball team placed first at the third super series of the year in Kelowna. In Saturday's pool play, the team won both their matches, earning a crossover match against last year's provincial and national champs, Fraser Valley Blitz. In a close match, the team was able to fight out a victory winning 17-15 in the 3rd set. Entering the Sunday playoffs, the girls faced a younger U17 Fraser Valley team which was hungry for an upset. After a slow start, Shock lost the the first set 25-16 but came roaring back in the 2nd with a 25-8 win. The 3rd and deciding set went right down to the wire where the team was able to squeak out a 19-17 win. A straight sets defeat of Focus U18 in the semi-final set up a re-match against Fraser Valley in the gold medal game. A hard fought first set ended with Shock triumphant 25-23. The second set saw the team hit their stride and win the match with a 25-22 score. With only 8 healthy players on the roster the girls showed great determination and confidence. Each player brought their best in achieving a second super series victory of the year and maintaining their #1 provincial ranking heading towards the Provincial Championship tournament in April.
