The Brentwood Senior Girls came out with a bang, placing 4th in both early season tournaments before December Break, the Duncan Welcome Back Tournament and ISAs. This was the first time in four years that our team has attended ISAs and the girls pulled off a major upset, 62-58, against the #2 ranked ‘A’ team in the province from Mulgrave. As it was one of the few times we were completely healthy and with all team members present, it was a glimpse of our full potential. Another highlight of our season was beating Shawnigan in both Showcase games. Although we competed against our rivals in more than just league play, the home court advantage atmosphere pushed us to play even harder for our fans. As always, the Mark Isfeld Tournament in Courtney was a memorable trip full of pranks and constant laughter. South Islands was a great test of our team’s composure. With one of the hardest brackets we’ve seen in years, we knew the tournament would be a challenge. In possibly our best game of the season, we faced Parklands who had beaten us by three points earlier in the season at our home tournament. Do or die time. With the end of the season on the line, we came together to overcome two missing starters, injuries, and the odds, to continue our season. We underdogs rise again. Our last contest of the year was against Wellington, a challenge game to qualify for the final berth in the Island Championships. The team stormed out to an early 16-4 lead but we were unable to replicate our early advantage in the final three quarters en route to a loss that ended our season. Despite missing out on qualifying for the Island Championship, our team grew significantly over the season and had a great run. We could not have had this success without the support and hard work of our coaches. Thanks Mr. Warner for sticking with us, keeping us positive through our ups and downs, and for graciously accepting a plate full of whipped cream in the face. Petra J, Captain, Mackenzie ‘16
